Baptism
Parents must be registered and active parishioners for a period of six months before seeking to have their children baptized. Attendance at the Baptism Preparation Class is mandatory for the parents and godparents before the celebration of the sacrament. Please call the Director of Religious Education at (414) 671-3938 to register for the Baptism Preparation Class and the celebration of the Sacrament.
Adults seeking Baptism and/or entry into the Catholic Church are invited to participate in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process. Please call the Director of Religious Education at (414) 671-3938 for more information.
Confirmation
Young people at least 16 years old should register and actively participate in a one year Confirmation Preparation process.
Adults seeking to be confirmed must participate in the RCIA process. Call the Director of Religious Education at (414) 671-3938 for more information and to register for these processes.
Sacrament of Matrimony
At least one member of a couple wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony at the Basilica must be a registered and active parishioner at the Basilica for a minimum period of six months before any date can be requested. This policy is strictly enforced due to the high volume of requests for marriage at the Basilica. Under no circumstances should a couple set any dates or make any contracts for any other portions of their celebration (banquet center, caterer, entertainers, photographer, etc...) until a date has first been confirmed by the Basilica.
If there has been any previous marriage of either party in ANY way (civilly, another denomination/religion, common law, on the beach... whatever!) a Church process must be totally completed before any plans can begin for a subsequent marriage. Please make a personal appointment with one of the parish priests to discuss the particulars of these processes before considering any future marriage.
Couples must make their marriage preparation a priority in their life. A minimum six-month preparation time is established by Archdiocesan policy and includes several events with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Basilica requiring a significant time commitment on the part of the couple. Those who do not fulfill these requirements will need to postpone their marriage until they are fulfilled in their entirety.
