Other Giving Opportunities
The Basilica depends upon the kindness and generosity of people who share a vision for ministry and service within the Church. As part of the Franciscan mission, the friars and the people of the Basilica, respond to a wide variety of needs and circumstances. If you are considering a contribution to the Basilica as a part of your charitable giving, or in your will, we offer these suggestions.
Basilica Memorial Fund
The Memorial Fund is made up of donations offered in memory of the living and deceased friends of the Basilica and members of our parish community. These donations are used in refurnishing the sanctuary and to provide for the needed refurbishing of other elements used around the altar. This fund benefits only the furnishing of the Basilica Church directly (statues, paintings, vestry, etc,).
Basilica Parish School Endowment
The St Josaphat Parish School Endowment Fund benefits the future of our parish school directly. Purposes shall include the construction, improvement and maintenance of the School buildings and facilities and the expansion and improvement of the School's religious and educational programs.
Brother Jacoba Fund
Donations to the Brother Jacoba Fund support the ministries of the Franciscans in conjunction with efforts for the Basilica parish neighborhood. These Franciscan ministries include but are not limited to:
- The parish nurse, who arranges for home visitations and for the physical care of the elderly and homebound. In addition, blood drives, blood pressure monitoring and nutrition programs are also sponsored.
- Southeast Interfaith offers the homebound and elderly care through programs offered specifically in social and practical matters. Interfaith provides drivers for those who are not able to drive themselves to doctor's appointments or grocery Shopping. Interfaith offers programs to promote the healthy care of the elderly throughout our area.
- The parish Food Pantry is an extension of the St. Vincent de Paul outreach to the poor and underprivileged in our neighborhood. The Food pantry operates on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:00am. A surprising number of people are served in this particular ministry. Each year, in addition to the regular food panty items, the people also are added to the Christmas lists that provide many other necessities that they cannot buy but which they nonetheless need.
- We also provide English as a second language program which, if necessary, draws from this fund for books and supplies.
